Accidents and Injuries

Have you had an accident?  Was it someone else's fault?

Road Accidents

You may have suffered injury:

• as the driver of a car involved in a road accident

• as the passenger in a car involved in a road accident

• as a pedestrian struck by a vehicle
• while travelling on public transport when it was involved in a road accident.
  
  

A family member may have died as a result of an accident which was not their fault

Even if the other driver was not insured or did not stop at the scene or yours was the only vehicle involved or you may be partly to blame for the accident,  you may be able to make a claim.

Accidents at work

You may have been injured at your place of work as the result of:

• the premises being in a bad state of repair
• having tripped on something
• having had something fall on you
  
• having suffered injury as a result of doing your job
  
• lifting, falling or the operation of machinery and equipment.

Your employer is required to provide you with a safe place of work and there are specific legal regulations governing the workplace and certain types of work. If your employer has not complied with those regulations and you suffer injury as a result, you will be entitled to make a claim.

Trips and slips

You may have tripped over in the street as a result of an uneven pavement. You may have slipped on something in a supermarket, shop, hotel or other public place.

Accidents in public places

You or a family member may have been injured while at a public place or event, perhaps at school or in a public playground, swimming pool or other public venue. The occupiers of premises or organisers of events are required to take steps to keep members of the public safe in such circumstances and if they fail to do so and you suffer injury as a result  you may be able to make a claim.

Other

You may have been assaulted or been the victim of a crime of violence which has led to injury. You may be able to make a claim.

If your case is successful your opponent should pay your legal costs and in most cases you have nothing to pay if you win.  You will also have nothing to pay if you lose, depending on the circumstances of your case.
