Based in Bedford, Bedfordshire, David James began painting in 1982, and apart from a couple of evening class courses, he is basically self-taught. His trade on leaving school was as a Motor Mechanic and after a career as a Service Engineer ended with redundancy, he turned professional in 1988.

His specialises in water colours and his style is fairly detailed. The majority of his paintings are landscapes and buildings, although his interest in mechanical things has led to the painting of Steam Trains, Tractors, Boats and occasionally Aeroplanes.

He has undertaken many commissions and enjoys this aspect of his work.
He has also tutored at night classes for the past eight years, and enjoys giving talks and demonstrations at Art Societies around the area.
