Let the Bird Sing |

Autumn Birch Copse |
Sue Melville is drawn to places which have a
sense of magic and awareness of time passing. She conveys this feeling using colour and
movement in her paintings. She works in a variety of media including acrylics, pastels,
collage and charcoal. In her recent paintings the frame has become incorporated into the
picture.
"My work is concerned principally in
interpreting the landscape around me in a poetic sense following in the tradition of other
English artists such as Paul Nash. My favourite places or themes are Houghton House, a
17th century ruin just outside Ampthill, Bedfordshire, and the landscape and fallen trees
situated in Ampthill Park. The fallen trees have provided a wealth of imaginative
possibilities as their appearance changes with weather and time. They take on the forms of
animals, birds, and heads and have a presence and life of their own."
Background and
Exhibitions
Sue studied fine art at Kingston Polytechnic and the Royal Academy Schools between 1969
and 1975. She has exhibited at numerous group and solo exhibitions in Bedfordshire and
Hertfordshire. Commissions are welcome. |
